1st Bovey Tracey Scout Group Invests in Solar and Battery Storage with Mole Energy

The Scout Group was awarded just under £20,000 to invest in renewable energy technology for its Scout Hut, helping to reduce energy costs, lower carbon emissions and improve the long-term sustainability of the building.

The project includes the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and battery storage, enabling the Scout Group to generate and store its own renewable electricity. By reducing reliance on grid energy, the system will deliver ongoing savings that can be reinvested into activities, equipment and opportunities for local young people.

The Scout Hut plays an important role within the local community, serving Scouts, volunteers and community groups from across Bovey Tracey and the surrounding area. The investment in renewable energy helps secure the future of the facility while demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Installing solar power and battery storage will help us reduce running costs, improve the sustainability of our Scout Hut, and ensure that we can continue providing opportunities for young people within our community. This investment will have a lasting benefit for the Group and the wider community that uses our facilities.”

Mole Energy worked closely with the Scout Group throughout the project to design and install a system tailored to the building’s energy requirements, maximising the benefits of on-site renewable generation and energy storage.

By capturing solar energy during daylight hours and storing excess electricity for use when needed, the new system will help the Scout Group manage its energy costs more effectively while reducing its environmental footprint.

The funding award will be formally celebrated at a special event on 22 September 2026, bringing together Scouts, volunteers, supporters and project partners. The evening’s guest speaker will be Professor Nathan Mayne of the University of Exeter, who will discuss his research into planetary climates, weather systems and space exploration.
